Horses Helping Girls Heal • Learn • Grow

Apprentice Program

The Apprentice Program is a no-fee working program designed for girls 12 years old and above, who have a deep desire and commitment to learning about and caring for horses. By providing the opportunity for girls to earn ride time by doing horse and farm chores this program is ideal for girls that may not have the personal means to own a horse, but have a willingness to learn, a strong work ethic and aspire to be a part of a positive, empowering horse community.

Apprentices will be chosen through the an application, interview and testing process.

Step one is to fill out all the paperwork, release forms and application and send them in.

Step two is to contact us to set up an appointment to meet in person at the farm for an interview (and parent if under 18).

Step three is to pass a horsemanship skill set test. (Please see Jr. Apprentice & Apprentice Tests).

If more training is needed, the applicant is encouraged to enroll in the Apprenticeship Training Program. Those who are selected to become an Apprentice, will need to commit to 12+ hours a week at the farm, (during the summer) to give them the opportunity to build relationships with the horses, instructors, mentors and other apprentices.

Our school horses range from beginning to advanced, in many areas of the English discipline. As riding skills improve, there will be ample opportunity to try out different horses. Apprentices will also have a chance to learn how to work with and help train our PMU rescue horses, from yearlings to four year olds.
