Apprentice Assistant Program

Apprentice Assistant Program is for girls 10 and 11 years old, with a strong working knowledge of horsemanship and good riding skills (English or Western - walk, trot, canter). Although too young to take on the responsibilities of an Apprentice or Jr. Apprentice, the Assistant works hand-in-hand with the older girls. They will have the opportunity to be part of a working horse farm on a daily basis, doing horse and farm chores to improve their horsemanship skills. Ride time is included each day.

All applicants for the Apprentice Assistant’s program must meet with the Program Director and pass a competency test before being admitted into the program. To schedule an appointment, please call 206.321.0142 or email contact@phoenixrisingsanctuary.org.

(For safety: all Apprentice Assistants will work with a partner while walking amongst the herd)

Skills test to pass before acceptance into Apprentice Assistance Program:

2. •Groom & bathe a horse/pony
   

3. •Tack-up/untack
   

4. •Flysheet on & off
   

5. •Horse/pony back into correct pasture or paddock
   

Skills gained in the Apprentice Assistant Program include:

1. •Working with the herd
   

2. •Understanding horse language
   

3. •Natural horsemanship skills
   

4. •Basic vetting
   

5. •Understanding horse nutrition
   

6. •Feeding and care of the horses
   

7. •Horse awareness and safety for others
   

8. •Training a young horse
   

9. •Ground work
   

10. •Safety & awareness

Ages: 10 - 11 years old

Weeks: Every week June 20th - August 26th

Days: Monday - Friday

Time: 9:30am - 4:00pm

Phoenix Rising Sanctuary is a Washington State non-profit with 501(C) (3) status. We offer our girls programs at these affordable rates to encourage those girls who normally would not be able to have access to horses, or a farm experience.
